What is S-Video?

• S-Video (Separated Video often referred to as "Super-Video") is a video interface standard found on most audiovisual equipment today. S-Video is a step up from standard composite video, which uses a yellow RCA jack and RCA cable, while S-Video utilizes a mini-DIN plug and S-Video cable. When connecting equipment that has both options, one can choose to use S-Video.
• S-Video connectors are four or seven-pin mini-DIN plugs. To ensure correct orientation of the pins the connector has a notched, metal sleeve that must align properly with the female jack before it can be inserted. S-Video cables are more expensive than RCA cables and are not always included with products, but can be purchased separately.
• S-Video delivers a superior picture to composite video by avoiding some of the processing that composite video requires. A video signal is a mixture of two separate data streams: brightness or luminescence, known as the Y stream, and chrominance or color, known as the C stream. The C signal carries values for red and blue, while green values are deduced. Hence, RGB, or red, green and blue, occupies just two data streams within the C signal.
• In the original analog video standard in use since the 1950s, the Y/C signals are compressed into a single stream, passed through a single RCA wire, and decoded by a television filter into its Y and C elements. Although enduring and convenient, the process of compressing and decoding video signals results in some degradation of data integrity. This translates directly to the screen in loss of picture quality. S-Video preserves greater signal integrity by housing two wires in a single sheath, dedicating one to each of the Y and C signals and eliminating much of the filtering process. Greater preservation of signal integrity results in a sharper picture
• As with composite video, S-Video only transfers visual data. Audio cables are required for transferring sound. These can be standard RCA cables, or in the case of high-end CD and DVD players, digital audio connections might be preferred

How to Connect a Laptop to a TV Using a VGA Cable?



Video Graphics Array, or VGA for short, is video interface technology which is commonly used to connect desktop computers to monitors. A standard VGA connection displays in 640í--480 resolution. This is the standard definition in a 4:3 aspect ratio. Many laptop computers have VGA ports, primarily for hooking up additional monitors, but the VGA port can also be used to connect a laptop and a TV.

• Plug one end of the VGA cable into the laptop's VGA port.
• Connect the other end of the VGA cable to the TV's VGA port. If the TV does not have a VGA port, plug the other end of the VGA cable into a composite adapter and then plug the composite cables into the TV. Older televisions often do not have VGA ports and require an adapter, while newer models often have VGA ports.
• Turn on the computer and TV.
• Change the TV to the correct video channel for the incoming connection from the computer. Most TVs have several video channels, such as S-video, component, and HDMI. The correct channel will likely be a blue screen instead of static. Your TV screen might display your computer's desktop at this point. If not, go on to step 5.
• Open your computer's video control panel and setup screen sharing. Depending on your graphics card, your video control panel will be different, but you should be able to access it by right clicking the desktop and selecting it from the "drop down" list. Once you open the display control panel, look for an option to set up multiple displays or enable screen sharing. Select the clone setting to have the TV display the computer's desktop, or dual view to create an extension of your computer's screen

How to Connect a PC to a VGA TV?

To view your computer screen and programs on your TV, you'll need to get the two components connected. Making a VGA connection between a computer and VGA-compatible television is as simple as purchasing a couple of cables.

• Connect one end of a VGA cable to the VGA output port on your PC (the same port used to connect a monitor).
• Connect the other end of the VGA cable to the VGA input on your TV.
• Use the 1/8-inch-to-RCA cable to connect audio. The VGA cable carries video only. Connect the single 1/8-inch end into the audio output jack on your PC.
• Connect the two RCA ends to the corresponding left and right audio inputs on your TV. They should be color-coded red and white for easy designation.
• Turn on the television and switch to the appropriate input for the VGA port
