How to Fix a Wall Clock:
Wall clocks can add a decorative finish to a room. Wall clocks come in a variety of forms--some have a pendulum, some have a balance wheel inside the clock and others feature a cuckoo that springs out from within the clock every hour. Some wall clocks have no pendulum or cuckoo but feature a scene or a saying printed on the face of the clock. Fixing your wall clock depends on what is wrong with it- Wind your pendulum or balance wheel clock with the key provided when you bought the clock if the pendulum has stopped swinging. The key fits into the winding mechanism on the back of the clock. After you've wound the clock, take the pendulum and sweep it up to one side until you hear a click and then let go. The pendulum should start swinging. Pendulum and balance wheel clocks are driven by a powerful spring that needs winding periodically
- Look to make sure the hands on your wall clocks are not touching. Touching hands will stop the clock from working. Pull the hands apart and reset the wall clock
- Make sure pendulum clocks are level. The pendulum will not swing if the clock is not level. If you have moved your clock or if the clock has been pushed or jarred while on the wall it may not be level. Push one side of the clock a bit and listen to the ticking sound. Gently push the other side. Keep pushing each side until the ticking has a perfect tick tock sound
How to Stop a Ticking Sound from a Clock:
A traditional wall clock is a useful addition to any home, but it can be an irritant if it clicks throughout the day and night. Its purpose to let you know what time it is every once and a while, not remind you that the seconds are ticking away, every second of the day. Silencing your timekeeper can remove any annoyance- Remove the rear panel on the clock by pinching the two side and pulling outward. The rear panel will pop right off the back of the clock. Set aside the rear panel.
- Fill the spray bottle with the clock oil if the oil wasn't purchased in a spray bottle. Set the paper towel on a table. Spray the gears on the inside of the clock once or twice with the clock oil. Set the clock on the paper towel with the face of the clock pointing up for 30 minutes, so that any dripping oil will be caught by the paper towel. Replace the back panel my pushing it back into place
- Place some egg crate foam on the wall behind the clock if the ticking is still too loud. This will eliminate most of the sounds coming from the back of the clock, and the vibrations that are forced on the wall by the clock's running gears
