How to Remove Chain Links in a Watch Band:

Most of us have bought a watch or received one as a gift at some time in our lives. If your watch had a link band on it, likely it was too big to fit correctly or fit the perfect way our own personal style reflects. Here are a few quick and simple steps to remove chain links in a watch band
- Try the watch on first to see how loose the watch band feels
- Now pinch the band together with your opposite hands fingers until it fits snug or feels comfortable. Count how many links are pinched between your fingers, this will give you and idea of how many links to remove
- Most watches will have tiny holes in the links towards where the watch clasp is located. These are the links that can safely be removed from the watch without damaging it
- Using the small hole punch place the tip of the hole punch into the hole of the link that you want to remove and press the link bar out through the opposite side
- link removed Next, using the pliers pull and completely remove the link bar from the link itself. This will detach the link from the band but it will remain linked to the clasp. You will need to repeat Step 3 and 4 to remove the link from the clasp as well
- Now using only one of the link bars that were removed, join the clasp and the link band together and insert the link bar. Completely press the link bar into the hole so that no one side has any of the bar sticking out
How to Tighten a Watch Band:

If you're tired of your watch sliding up and down your arm, you can tighten up the band to keep it in place. With a simple household tool, you can adjust most metal watch bracelets yourself. If you have a leather or plastic watch band, you can use a specialized tool to create a new hole precisely where you need it. Luxury watches should be taken to a licensed dealer for fitting and repair
Remove Links in a Metal Watch Bracelet
- Calculate the number of links you will need to remove. To do this, measure the circumference of the watch, the circumference of your wrist and the length of one metal link. Subtract your wrist measurement from the watch circumference and divide this by the length of one link. The result is the number of links you will need to remove. If you end up with a fraction, round down. You don't want to make your watch too small
- Select the links you want to remove. Press a thumbtack or pushpin point into the pin holding the link in place. In most cases, the pin should start to slide out the opposite side. If it doesn't come out all the way, use tweezers to help pull it out
- Repeat the process to remove the second pin holding the link in place. The link will fall out
- Remove the number of links calculated in step 1
- Reattach the watch bracelet by holding the ends together and slipping a pin into the slot. Press the pin firmly until it catches
- Tug gently on the reattached section of bracelet to make sure it's secure
Add a Hole to a Leather, Rubber or Plastic Watch Band
- Buy a leather hole punch from a craft or hobby store. Most punches have a wheel on which each spoke is a different size; you can select the size that best matches the prong of your watch clasp.
- Place the watch on your wrist, and pull it to the desired tightness. Use chalk to mark the ideal spot on the band for your new prong hole
- Lay the watch flat on a clean work surface
- Press the correct spoke of the hole punch through the chalk mark
- Rotate the spoke in the hole to make sure every strand of leather or plastic has been cut
- Pull the tool out of the hole, and try on the watch with its new tighter setting
