Wedding Invitation Wording:
- The Wedding Invitation Etiquette
Wedding invitations are sent to those friends, relatives and acquaintances who are to be present at the ceremony. When the wedding is to be a large church affair, invitations are sent to all those whose names appear on the visiting lists of the two families including relatives and friends of the bride and groom. With regard to business associates, the invitation should be extended because of the friendship, not the business connection. The core of a successful wedding invitation list needs to consist of people who know well, care about and love the Bride and Groom. For a home wedding, more discrimination is shown in the issuing of invitations. Intimate friends and relatives of both families are invited, but no casual acquaintances. In sending out the invitations, the bride-to-be and her mother should take into consideration the number of people who will fit comfortably into the reception area - The Invitation List for your Wedding
It is necessary for the bride and groom to-be to make out their list of those to whom invitations are to be sent together. If the wedding is to be a large affair, not only their friends but the friends of their parents as well, and business acquaintances of both families should be invited. If the wedding is a small one great care should be taken lest the guests are so numerous as to overcrowd the church or home. Especially is this true of the home where the space is usually more limited - Mailing the Wedding Invitation
All wedding invitations should come from the home of the bride, even those that are for the personal friends of her husband even if they are unknown to the bride. They should be mailed about six weeks before the day set for the wedding. Out of town guests should be sent a "Save the Date" card, preferably with hotel suggestions, in time for them to make travel accommodations (usually 8-10 weeks in advance)
How to Write a Wedding Invitation:
- Decide who is announcing the wedding - the couple's parents or the bride and groom themselves
- Determine if your invitation will be formal or informal. You can say Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Melendy request the honor of your presence or use a more casual phrase like please join us
- In general, use the term the honor of your presence if the ceremony will be held in a place of worship. Otherwise use the pleasure of your company or another less formal phrase
- For a traditional invitation, list the bride's name - usually first and middle - after her parents names. For example, Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Melendy request the honor of your presence at the marriage of their daughter, Wendy Sue
- Follow the bride's name with the full name of the groom: to John Jacob Williams. You may choose to name the groom's parents: son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Williams
- Write out the date: 'Friday, the ninth of June, two thousand one
- Mention the time of the ceremony: at ten o'clock
- List the location and full address
- Enclose a separate map and a stamped, self-addressed reply card
How to Tie a Ribbon on a Wedding Invitation:
- Decide where you want to put the ribbon on the wedding invitation. Most invitations have the ribbon at the center of the top of the card, but you may choose to put the ribbon along the left-hand side, or in the lower right-hand corner depending on the style of the invitation
- Choose a paper punch that will produce small round holes, or decoratively shaped holes if you prefer. For most types of ribbon, you'll want the holes to be no larger than 1/4 inch in diameter
- Cut a blank piece of paper the same size and shape as the wedding invitation, so you can practice positioning the holes. You may need several practice sheets before you get just the look you want
- Mark the center of the practice paper using a ruler and pencil on the area where you want the ribbon. Measure and mark the holes on either side of the center mark, spacing them equally. You may want the holes only 1/2 inch apart for a small ribbon or bow, or several inches apart for a larger, more dramatic ribbon
- Cut a piece of ribbon about 6 inches long if you want a ribbon with straight ends, or about 12 inches long if you want to tie the ends in a bow
- Poke the ends of the ribbon through the holes in the practice paper, from front to back. Pull the ends of the ribbon until they are an equal length, and the ribbon lies snugly against the paper. Flip the practice paper over
- Poke the ribbon on the right side through the hole on the left side, and poke the ribbon on the left side through the hole on the right, so that the ends are on the front of the paper again. Flip the practice paper over
- Cut the ends of the ribbon at an angle (or with V-shaped notches) and leave it as it is, or tie the ends of the ribbon into a bow
- Experiment with different hole placements and ribbon lengths on additional practice cards, if desired, until you get the look you want
- Use the final practice paper as a template to punch holes in the wedding invitation, and tie the ribbon on it

05-06-2011- Other Thoughts: Invitations arrived on time and were wonderful! Plain and simple allowed me to be creative and design my own invitations, with an elegant pearl border to finish it off. Invitations come with 3 practice sheets and directions for downloading a template online. Invitations and response cards printed beautifully. Had some issue printing directly on envelopes but think that was my printer. Overall wonderful product
