  Wedding invitations are sent to those friends, relatives and acquaintances who are to be present at the ceremony. When the wedding is to be a large church affair, invitations are sent to all those whose names appear on the visiting lists of the two families including relatives and friends of the bride and groom. With regard to business associates, the invitation should be extended because of the friendship, not the business connection. How to Tie a Ribbon on a Wedding Invitation:

• Decide where you want to put the ribbon on the wedding invitation. Most invitations have the ribbon at the center of the top of the card, but you may choose to put the ribbon along the left-hand side, or in the lower right-hand corner depending on the style of the invitation
• Choose a paper punch that will produce small round holes, or decoratively shaped holes if you prefer. For most types of ribbon, you'll want the holes to be no larger than 1/4 inch in diameter
• Cut a blank piece of paper the same size and shape as the wedding invitation, so you can practice positioning the holes. You may need several practice sheets before you get just the look you want
• Mark the center of the practice paper using a ruler and pencil on the area where you want the ribbon. Measure and mark the holes on either side of the center mark, spacing them equally. You may want the holes only 1/2 inch apart for a small ribbon or bow, or several inches apart for a larger, more dramatic ribbon
• Cut a piece of ribbon about 6 inches long if you want a ribbon with straight ends, or about 12 inches long if you want to tie the ends in a bow
• Poke the ends of the ribbon through the holes in the practice paper, from front to back. Pull the ends of the ribbon until they are an equal length, and the ribbon lies snugly against the paper. Flip the practice paper over
• Poke the ribbon on the right side through the hole on the left side, and poke the ribbon on the left side through the hole on the right, so that the ends are on the front of the paper again. Flip the practice paper over
• Cut the ends of the ribbon at an angle (or with V-shaped notches) and leave it as it is, or tie the ends of the ribbon into a bow
• Experiment with different hole placements and ribbon lengths on additional practice cards, if desired, until you get the look you want
• Use the final practice paper as a template to punch holes in the wedding invitation, and tie the ribbon on it
