How to Format a Blank CD Disk:


  • Insert the blank CD into your computer's drive. Windows detects the new CD and a dialog box pops up. Click the "Burn files to disc" option
  • Enter a name value for the CD. This gives your CD a friendly name, so you can recognize what CD is currently inserted into the CD-ROM. The name shows up in Windows Explorer when you browse the computer's drives
  • Click "Show formatting options." In this window, select a type of format. The "Live File System" allows you to save files to the CD similar to saving files to an external hard drive. The "Mastered" format requires you to select and save the files all at once. The "Live File System" is beneficial for backups... Use "Mastered" when you want to create a disk image or save software installation files to the CD disk
  • Click the "Next" button. Windows formats the CD, and it is ready for use
