How to Rebuild a Battery Pack:
It can be frustrating to have a cordless screwdriver, cordless electric drill, or other tool with a battery pack that no longer works. If you cannot locate a replacement pack for purchase or find that they are too expensive, you may want to rebuild the pack yourself.
- Instructions
- Look to see if you have a two-piece battery pack with screws. If so, simply take out the screws to disassemble the pack.
- Use the soldering gun with a chisel tip attached to cut apart one-piece battery packs so that you can separate them into two pieces and get to the batteries inside.
- Write down the arrangement of the battery cells inside the pack, along with the way they are connected. Most battery packs will contain a number of either "C" or "AA" size rechargeable cells in a plain cardboard wrap.
- Heat up the connections on the cells so that you can more easily remove them, disconnect all the batteries, and set them aside.
- Clean all the ends of the wires and the connections that remain in the pack with a wire brush. Refer to the notes you took, and set the new battery cells in place as they were before. Solder the connections.
- Reattach the battery pack with the screws, or if you have a one-piece unit, glue them back together using an epoxy adhesive. Your battery pack is ready to recharge and use
