How to Improve a Computers or Laptop CPU Cooling?

• Laptop computers are compact, giving them great transportability, but packing so much technology into a small space often leads to high heat production while a laptop is in use. When a laptop gets too hot, the CPU may start to overheat, which can lead to crashes and permanent hardware damage. It is important to take steps to improve laptop cooling to make certain the CPU doesn't run too hot.

Instructions:

• Always use the laptop on a hard surface. Soft surfaces like clothing or pillows stifle ventilation and hamper CPU cooling.
• Elevate the laptop above the work surface as much as possible. The more space there is between the bottom of the laptop and the surface you are working on, the easier it will be for the heat to escape. You can purchase computer stands to serve this purpose; another option is to use adhesive pads designed for the feet of chairs on the four corners of the laptop.
• Use a can of compressed air to blow dust out of the laptop's fan vent. Laptops almost always use an internal fan to vent heat out of the computer. Since space is limited, dust can easily collect and reduce the effectiveness of the computers CPU cooling. Blowing out dust with a can of air can improve ventilation.
• Use fewer programs and reduce performance settings. Laptops are less powerful than desktop computers; demanding too much of a laptop can cause the CPU to run hot. Try running only one program at a time and running programs like games at lower graphics settings.
• Use AC power whenever possible. Laptop batters get very hot when they are in use, which can make CPUs run hotter. Plug your laptop in whenever you can to reduce battery heat.

• It takes a little bit of time to apply it (I used a toothpick to spread it evenly), but once you get a nice thick even coat, you are good to go!

• I used it 5 for fixing the infamous YLOD(Yellow light of Death) on my PS3. This stuff works perfectly. I recommend applying this compound with your finger ( while using gloves) because I found that is it is too thick to apply it with a spreader/card.

• I bought this because I was building a HTPC/light gaming computer. This helps keep my CPU (AMD AM3 Athlon x3 2.7 Ghz 95W) cool under generally light to moderate use. I tried putting it under heavy load for 10 minutes and the tempurature only went up 5 degrees Celsius! Recommend

• I used this to replace the bad thermal paste on my Xbox 360 after I pulled it apart and cleaned off the old goo. Once I replaced the paste, and used a Xbox 360 hardware fix kit, the Xbox 360 started working again, no problems. I've used Arctic Silver 5 in the past when I've built my own computers. It works great, but just remember when you use it that many times less is more. If you put too much paste on the CPU or GPU or whatever you're trying to transfer heat from, it will ooze out from the sides and dissipate the heat incorrectly. My only gripe is that, if you don't build computers very often, you end up using about 5% of the tube, and you have way too much leftover.
