How to Create a Normal Headset Adapter for an Xbox 360:



One of the features of Microsoft's Xbox 360 is Xbox Live, an online gaming and socialization interface with varying levels of subscription. The ability to communicate with other gamers via headset is an important component of this service. To encourage users to buy proprietary headsets, Microsoft designed the headset ports located on Xbox 360 controllers for 2.5 mm plugs. Fortunately, you can make an adapter that will allow for the use of more common 3.5 mm headsets.

• Turn off your Xbox 360 and disconnect any 2.5 mm headsets from your controllers.
• Insert the 3.5 mm headset plug into the 3.5 mm port of your 3.5mm-to-2.5 mm adapter. Push the plug into the port until you hear a click.
• Insert the 2.5 mm adapter plug into the 2.5 mm port on your Xbox controller. Push the plug into the port until you hear a click.
• Turn on your Xbox 360 and log on to Xbox Live.
• Test your new headset and adapter by selecting one of your friends from your "Friends List." Create a short audio message and play it back to ensure that your headset's microphone and headphones are working. Delete the message when you are finished with the test.

Tips & Warnings:

• You will need a specialized adapter if you would like to connect a PC headset to your Xbox 360 controller. The necessary adapter would require a 2.5 mm plug connected to two 3.5 mm ports, one for the PC headset's headphone plug and another for the microphone plug.

• I use this for my Gamecom 777 headset and it works perfectly. I do wish game audio came through as well but I don't think it works that way with an XBOX headset either. Overall, a great product for the price.

• This little piece of equipment works well. I tried using other adapters to get my Zalman mic to work but it didn't work. This is definitely worth the small price I paid.

• This set up is far far superior to using the turtlebeach or astro headset. The DSS2 processor has a wider frequency range than the astro mixamp pro and has customizable features that the astro mixamp pro does not.

• i just plug the headphones into the audio out on the speakers. Works great. Idk how good people can hear me but i know they can hear me and i can hear them. The only think i wish is that i had mic volume control. I have a mute switch but it would be nice to be able to turn it up or down.

• This little adapter works great. And instead of buying piggy back cables i just send the audio to my logitech input. And its all one channel so the game audio and mic audio all get sent out the headphone jack.
