How to Record TV Programs to a JVC Camcorder
JVC camcorders can be used to record TV programs when connected to an audio/video source, which can be a cable or satellite box or the television itself, using the appropriate a/v jacks on the back of the console. Most JVC camcorders feature a Digital Video Interface (DVI) jack, and high-definition models are equipped with a High Definition Media Interface (HDMI) port, making the camcorder compatible with HDTV. Both connections will provide high-quality audio and video signal transmission for recording to the camera's hard drive or digital video, depending on the model
- Check the port on the back or rear side of the JVC camcorder to determine the best cable connection for recording programs. A six-sided HDMI plug will transfer true high-definition video on camcorders equipped with this high-def feature. Otherwise, a DVI cable can be used
- Connect the cable by inserting the plug straight into the jack on the camera. HDMI and DVI plugs insert only one way, so don't attempt to force the plug
- Connect the other end of the cable to the HDMI or DVI jack on the back of the television or the cable or satellite receiver box if recording directly from a receiver
- Set the television or the receiver to the desired channel for recording
- Insert a tape into the camcorder or check the hard-drive memory status to be sure there is enough storage capacity on the camcorder. JVC camcorders with a built-in hard drive hold 60 to 120 gigabytes of digital information, depending on the camera model. A 60 GB camera can hold approximately 12 hours of digital video and audio
- Set the camcorder to external recording on the control panel
- Press the "Record" button on the camcorder to begin recording the program
- Change the camcorder switch to "Playback" to review the recorded program when the HDMI or DVI cable is connected to a TV
