Types of Button Cell Batteries:

• Zinc Air - Zinc air button cells are about the size of your pinky fingernail and used in hearing aids. They provide 1.4 volts per cell. These button cell batteries need oxygen; therefore they have small holes in the bottom and should not be placed in tight compartments. These are the most popular type of batteries and work well in hearing aids, which are usually built with large seams where air can reach the battery
• Lithium - Lithium button cell batteries are often referred to as coin cell batteries because they resemble coins. This battery provides 3 volts per cell and contains no mercury. Such batteries can be found in key fobs, some remotes, various toys and personal medical devices
• Silver Oxide and Alkaline - Silver oxide and alkaline button cell batteries are not dependent on oxygen and can be used in tight spaces. They are often found in toys, calculators and watches, and provide 1.5 volts per cell
• Mercuric Oxide - Manufacturers use mercuric oxide as the electrode in this button cell battery. Even though these batteries are small, they contain 30 percent to 40 percent mercury by weight. The Mercury-Containing and Rechargeable Battery Act of 1996, a federal law, started the final phaseout of this type of battery. This is also when batteries began having the words "must be recycled" printed on them in order to help the environment

• If you want a reliable, safe, and reasonably good quality item, this would be a good purchase for you. I have no idea about the longevity of the device, but it seems pretty well made and sturdy. For infrequent use, I imagine it would last a very long time.
