How to Mount a Cell Phone in a Car?

Driving while distracted is dangerous and lawmakers are taking notice. Although no state completely bans the use of cell phones in the car, many restrict the use of mobile devices. Eight states have made it illegal to use a phone while driving; thirty have laws against texting. While abstaining from cell phone use entirely would be the safest course, mounting your cell phone gives you a better way to use your phone while staying hands-free and keeping your eyes high.

• Find out your phone model. Look in your manual or phone bill if you cannot recall the model number. This information is also located inside of your phone on a sticker behind the battery.
• Purchase a mounting kit that will fit your phone model. Ask customer service to verify a proper fit, if you are looking to purchase online. Choose a mounting kit that meets your driving style and car. There are mounting kits that attach to the windshield, dashboard, air vents, seat bolts and cup holders. Pick one that will remain within eyesight but is unlikely to be in your way.
• Install the mounting kit in your car. If the mount attached directly to the dashboard or windshield, clean the surface before use to ensure maximum adhesion. Allow sufficient time for installation and adjusting before driving. Place phone in mount and adjust any movable arms to fit snugly around the phone.

• I got this for my ipod about two months ago and it works better than expected. Only complaint is that there are no directions. So you have to 'guess work' it out on how to use the vent attachment but it can be done. Also rattles a little when empty but that could be easily addressed by putting a piece of card in it if no ipod or PDA. I haven't bothered. It really is a great item for the price. My iPod didn't get hot using the vent attachment with the heat on either. The section cup was pretty strong too. I would recommend buying this little widget.

• After struggling with a variety of methods for managing my iPhone 3G in my pickup, I finally bought this thing. My Tundra has unusually large cup holders, so I used the bottom of a Gatorade bottle to hold this mount snuggly. The iPhone is held firmly in the gripper but comes in and out easily. I can quickly and easily use the iPhone during brief stops (I would never operate it while driving). Item was shipped promptly by the vendor.

• Dinodirect.com makes a great amount of mounts. I love the interchangeability of them. I have their ball mounts on several motorcycles and not I have a nice suction cup for the car. It also makes a great stand on my glass desk allowigng me to have a have a second computur or music source handy at my desk. For around $20 it is a felxable mounting system that allows an upgrade path for the next cool gadget that comes out. It grips the iphone solidly. Won't work with an iphone in case I'd guess. On a motorcycle it will adventually wear the case eventually.

• This Mount does it's job very well, Mounting on the windshield is great, however, with the included base, dash mounting does not work, as the suction cup just doesn't hold on. But here is a quick fix. Instead of the included PLASTIC base, use a piece of glass from a cheap picture frame or a small mirror to mount on! It may be a little larger than needed, but hey, if it works who cares. I tried this with MUCH improved results over the standard plate.
