 How to Use a Flash Diffuser:

• A diffuser creates a softer flash for more appealing photos. It is a device that is placed between the flash unit and the photo subject to decrease the effects of a direct flash. Often, a direct flash will leave sharp shadow lines around the subject's edge and create a flat image. A diffuser softens the flash by randomizing the rays of light it produces. The result is a softer image, which creates smoother shadows and gradients. Some flash units have built-in diffusers, but many on-the-spot diffusers can be created from everyday materials

Instructions:

• Locate your flash unit's built-in flash diffuser plate by looking for a small pull-tab directly above the flash bulb area. If one is present, pull it outward and lay it on top of your flash
• Place a semi-transparent material over your flash if one is not built in. You can use many types of materials, such as bubble wrap, white grocery bags or a see-through plastic lid. Different diffusions are created by the degree of transparency and the texture of the material
• Turn on the flash and connect it with your camera. Aim the camera at the subject and take the photo. The flash diffuser will spread out and flatten the light produced
• Inspect the image produced and adjust the diffuser to increase or decrease the amount of light or the area where it falls

• It does give that soft glow, what I really needed. I shot within four feet, and no evident hard flash, and those annoying red eyes NO MORE!

• I can't believe what great lighting this little gadget gives. It softens the light giving your subject a beautiful, even glow. I used it in total darkness to shoot a picture of a sleeping baby and the results were amazing... plus the baby wasn't affected by a bright flash in her face. The diffuser folds flat for storage. Don't be discouraged when you first receive it... yes, it feels flimsy in your hand but once you open it up and attach it to the flash unit it's stable. I would definitely buy this product again.

• what can I tell you this is a must have with your canon I highly recommend it, I have done so many test pics with and without it and it does a huge difference indeed in final results specially in portrait shooting.

• I purchesd this to use with my canon, and it works great for bouce flash. It takes the glare off and gives your subjects a nice soft light. I read about this in dino website, and it was a must have. It fits a little snug, but that's good, because I won't worry about loosing it. Just remember you are restricting the light of your flash, so you need to power it up a notch or so.

• I was in a hurry and had it shipped Amazon next day for an assignment. After shooting a couple of shots I just took it off and started putting the flash behind me 3 to 8ft from the wall to create an umbrella affect with reflected wall color to add its color to the shot. Flashing to the celling gives 1 of 3 people the pumpkin head look. As my flash was being annoying to people on the sides of the walls, I later cut the front out of the diffuser, spray-painted it black, and turned it into a snoot. When I get a backup flash, it will also have a backup snoot on it. With it modified this way it is worth 10 times what I paid to get it.

• This diffuser is the same quality as the one that comes with the other flash. It is much better than other aftermarket diffusers that require velcro. It snaps on and off easily. It should have been included as original equipment but is inexpensive and cost effective. Much better than the built in plastic flat diffuser.
