How to Compare Canon Wireless Remote Controller RC-1 & RC-5
- The RC-1 and RC-5 remotes are compatible with certain Canon cameras
The Canon RC-1 and RC-5 are both wireless infrared remotes to control various functions of certain Canon cameras. Both compatible with multiple Canon Rebel and Canon EOS models, the devices are nearly identical.
Function
Both the RC-1 and RC-5 remotes are designed to be used mainly as a way to allow the photographer to get into the picture without having to set the camera's timer. While both feature a two-second delay mode, which takes the picture two seconds after you press the button, the RC-1 also has an instant mode that takes pictures as soon as you press the button.
Drawbacks
Both devices are strictly for photographers who want to be in their own pictures, since both devices require a direct line-of-sight with the front of the camera to work. Taking pictures from the sides, behind the camera or even with a large lens may block the infrared signal and prevent the camera from "hearing" the command. Neither device allows you to focus and both have a limited range of 16 feet.
Comparing
The best way to compare the devices is to use them both and decide which works best for you. With more features, the RC-1 would likely be the better bet. Consider also simply setting your camera's self-timer, which allows you to then get in the picture, eliminating the need to even purchase a remote.
