How to Use a Media Center PC Remote Control

• The Media Center PC remote control is simple, functional and user-friendly. A Media Center PC remote is similar to any standard TV remote. It is shaped like a bowling pin and is ergonomic in design. The remote is big to avoid confusion with other remotes
• Check the remote. Make sure the remote is not damaged. Ask for a replacement if it is
• Make sure the Media Center PC system is on and in operating condition before using the remote
• Ensure that the remote's batteries are charged
• Identify each button and its location. Some of the most common functions are located in the top rows. These include the play, pause, rewind, forward and record functions
• Launch the menu system on the Media Center PC screen with the "start" function. The "start" button is likely to be used the most. It is located just below the top row. "Start" is the largest button, usually green
• Play live TV, recorded TV programs or DVDs with your remote. Towards the middle of the remote, you will find buttons for all these features. Pressing "live TV" will play TV live on your PC. You can record and save TV programs on the Media Center PC. To play these, press the "recorded TV" button. Similarly, to play a DVD in the DVD drive of the PC, press "DVD menu."
• Browse channels, programs and files using the plus (+) and minus (-) buttons next to the "start" button. Buttons for controlling volume are also located around "start."
• The bottom row of buttons has numbers 1 through 9 with volume and channel controls. The bottom right button is the "enter" button. This should be used for selecting files and features

• I love this thing. It works perfectly and has almost completely replaced fiddling with the mouse and keyboard on my htpc. I've been using my android phone as a mouse and keyboard as well, but this is so much less clunky.

• For what it is, and for the price, it works as you'd expect. The mouse control, as others have said, is terrible but you get used to it and can still get the mouse where it needs to go without getting up from the couch. I use it only to play video/music and for that it works great. Sometimes it stops working, but to remedy that all I have to do is unplug it and plug it back in.
  
  The low cost is definitely worth not having to get up from the couch every time that I want to pause/play a new show.

• The remote is very easy to set up, and works reasonably well. It allows you to shut off your computer, open your web browser, use page up and page down keys, use up/down/left/right arrows, enter, right and left click, drag, and close a web page. There are also hotkeys that you can use to open an application. The mouse function is adequate, but a little frustrating sometimes. I use Zinc.tv to organize internet video and mostly use the up/down/left/right and enter keys to navigate. Those keys are a bit difficult to use because they are located at the bottom of the remote. I would have preferred those keys to be at the top of the remote where the mouse pad is. I have not had any luck using the remote to enter letters, so do not count on this device to replace your keyboard.

• For the price i felt it might have been a gamble but what the heck. It has worked perfectly. I really wanted a sound control from remote for watching netflix on my computer and that it does. If your watching a dvd it acts just like a regular remote. I used both Win media player and Nero, it worked fine. The mouse like function has come in handy also, there are buttons i still haven't played with. I wasn't looking for a bunch a features, the remote did everything i wanted. Running WinXP pro SP3 it was plug and play with no additional setup. For the price, a very nice buy.

• I bought this product for use with a pc running windows XP 64 bit version. As you may be aware this windows version has issues with a lot of plugins, I use it because of it's speed, and I have been able to buy peripherals that work fine with it. This remote worked with it out of the box. I bought it basically because I wanted to use it so that my PC could be controlled with my Harmony 720 remote. I was able to teach the Harmony 720 the code, and it worked well. I run XBMC on that pc because it is a pseudo media pc. This remote was able to open XBMC and use all the control functions. For the price you can't beat the capability to run a pc via a remote. Was happy with the product. I do not use the original remote because of the Harmony.

• We've used this with laptops and desktops with Vista and Windows 7 and it has been great. Sure the mouse interface is clunky but to do basic Hulu operations it sure beats trying to use a mouse or getting up from the couch. The price is great and it has been a huge convenience.
  
  Oh, and ignore the reviews about this not working with Windows 7, it worked fine for us right out of the box with no drivers to install or anything.

• I bought this so I could control an old computer that I am using to stream Netflix and Hulu to my TV without having to walk back and forth to use a wired mouse.
  This remote works exactly as advertised and for the most part works very well. It has all the functionality you need for PC operation, including short cut buttons to automate functions within your applications.
  There are only two negatives:
  1. The IR 'window' for the controller is somewhat narrow, you need to be pointing fairly directly at the receiver for the unit to control the cursor.
  2. The overall cursor movement is not as smooth as a traditional mouse. You will need some practice to operate it efficiently.
  All in all though, this remote mouse works very well for what I bought it for. I would absolutely buy one again.
