NOTE:
- The whole photo backdrop is divided into 4 pieces in the package and you need to combine them together into a whole when using it
How to Make a Photo Backdrop:
- I shopped at JC Penney's or Target or Walmart for a Queen or King Size Flat sheet
- The color can be plain white, a pattern like a wave, or solid color as well, whatever suits your project
- Solid backgrounds are easier on the eyes. Queen flat sheets are 60" x 80" and King are 76" x 80". There is even Cal King, 72" x 84"
- Take a trip to the hardware store and buy 2 long PVC pipes at 6 foot lengths, one for the top border and one for the bottom border. If you want to make it look finished, then buy caps for the ends and some rubber cement to glue them into place. I bought white plastic 3/4" for my backdrop frame
- Roll one end of the sheet onto the PVC pipe, two times around and tie off with plastic ties. Do the other end in the same manner. Tie end off
- Hang two bike hooks on a wall to place the backdrop onto. They should be placed about 6" in from the end of the pipe, to hang properly. Place PVC pipe with sheet into hooks. Let it hang naturally and pull forward a bit to place subjects in front of it
How to Make a Skyline Backdrop:
- Lay your fabric flat on a clean, clear floor
- Draw a horizontal line on the fabric, about one-third of the way from the bottom of the fabric, lengthwise
- Draw a series of rectangles, in varying widths and heights. The widths should range from 6 to 8 inches and the heights should be from 16 to 30 inches. The rectangles should extend from edge to edge of your backdrop. Draw some in front of others so they appear to overlap
- Draw triangular roofs for some of the buildings, diagonal roofs for others, and some with steeples. Keep some of the roofs horizontal for effect
- Draw rectangular windows in each of the buildings, beginning 1-inch below the roof and ending 1-inch above the horizon
- Use the paint and brush to fill in the sky area above the buildings. Use a combination of blue, gray and white to create a dirty medium-blue color. The color should be darker at the top of the buildings
- Paint the buildings in shades of dark red, dark gray, and blue. The buildings should all be similar in color and darker than the sky
- Paint the windows. Paint some black, some dark gray and others a dark yellow
- Paint the water a deep bluish-gray color, a little darker than the sky. Paint to the bottom of the piece of canvas
- Allow all the paint to dry
