Techniques to Place a Telephone Handset in the Cradle:
- Cradles were once common for PDAs and smartphones; now, most use cables instead.
- Handset cradles are common on landline phones, but cell phones have mostly gone to data cables and chargers instead of cradles. Still, some cell phone users like the convenience of simply sitting the handset down and having it charge rather than fiddling around with plugging in a data cable.
- Wilson Cell Phone Cradles
- After you've mounted your cell phone cradle, press the quick-release button and position the cradle arms so they are wide enough to fit around your phone. Rest the phone against the back of the cradle and squeeze the arms together so they hold the phone snugly. Move the feet at the bottom of the cradle so they support the phone. You may need to move the feet or arms so you can plug in a headset if you have one. Press the button again to open the arms and release the phone when you want to take it out.
- Seidio Cell Phone Cradles
- Place the cradle on a flat surface, such as your desk. Slide the handset into the cradle with the charging port down and the screen facing you. Make sure it sits snugly.
- Landline Phones
- On desktop phones, the cradle is often just a depression on the front of the base unit. If the phone has a wired handset, simply set it in the depression and make sure the receiver is pressed down. Cordless phones either sit upright or lie in a depression on the base unit. Set them down so that the metal contacts are touching and the phone handset can charge. If the handset has an indicator light, make sure it indicates the handset is charging.
- Solving Cradle Connection Problems
- Sometimes cordless or cell phone handsets won't make connection to the cradle, even when it is sitting inside. The connectors on the cradle must touch the connectors in the charging or data port in the phone. Unplug the cradle and clean the connectors using rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab. You can fix some cradle connection issues by slipping a folded piece of paper into the back of the cradle. This will make the phone tilt forward slightly, which may restore the connection.
