How to Make a Neck Warmer Scarf:
Long woolen scarves will keep you warm, but can be cumbersome to wear. Instead, make a neck warmer that fits snugly around your neck, under the collar of a coat or jacket without adding excessive bulk. - Purchase two pieces of fabric for the front and back of the neck warmer scarf. You will need two pieces, each 8 inches wide and 22 inches long. - Place the fabrics right sides together and pin around the edges with straight pins
- Cut a length of cording long enough to wrap around your button plus 2 inches
- Fold the cording in half to make a loop. Place the cording so the loop faces the inside of the fabric, on one corner, and pin in place
- Thread the sewing machine with coordinating thread
- Stitch the rectangle, starting near the cording, stitching over the two ends of the cording, and around the rectangle, leaving a 2-inch opening to turn the fabric
- Turn the fabric right sides out and hand or machine stitch the opening closed
- Place the scarf around your neck and locate where you want the button. The scarf should wrap comfortably around the neck, crossing in front, with the loop at the top edge. Place a pin where the loop meets the opposite side of the scarf. Remove the scarf from your neck
- Attach the first button by hand-stitching with a few stitches. Position the second button on the opposite side of the fabric and stitch back and forth several times, catching both buttons with the needle. Secure with a knot under one of the buttons

- Place the middle of your scarf around the back of your neck, allowing the two scarf ends to dangle against the front of your chest. Simply cross one end of the scarf over one of your shoulders so that the scarf end that you crossed now rests against your back. This is a great casual scarf look that still achieves some warmth
- Try this scarf look with wider winter scarves that can double as shawls. Fold a square-shaped winter scarf into a triangle and tie the two ends together over the front of your coat to form a chic knot. Patterned wool scarves work well in achieving this look
