Sewing an Evening Purse:
- You can make a glamorous evening purse with some uncomplicated hand-sewing techniques. This clutch is covered with ribbon roses, which makes an eye-catching purse that is perfect for a special occasion or night out on the town. The roses are made from satin ribbon, and the lined clutch purse is made from the same color satin fabric. All the sewing is done by hand with a needle and thread, but since the evening bag is small, the work moves quickly
Instructions
- Cut the satin into four rectangles of fabric that measure 9 inches by 5 inches
- Pin two rectangles together, right sides of the fabrics facing each other, on one long and two short sides. Sew the pieces together with small hand stitches along the pinned edges, 1/4-inch from the edges. Repeat with the remaining two rectangles of fabric
- Cut a 36-inch piece of satin ribbon. Hand baste 1/2-inch-long stitches along one long edge of the ribbon. Pull the thread to gather the ribbon to half its length. Coil the end of the ribbon closest to the needle, and stitch it in place. Coil the remaining gathered ribbon around the center coil, hand stitching it in place every inch. Knot and cut the thread to complete the ribbon rose. Repeat to make 20 ribbon roses
- Turn the second set of sewn-together rectangles to the right side. Pin and hand stitch the roses to one rectangle in four rows of 5 roses, leaving 1-inch of fabric free at the top of the rectangle
- Insert the first set of sewn-together rectangles inside the set with roses on it. Fold the top edges of all rectangles under 1/4-inch twice, pin them in place and hand stitch to attach the lining to the purse
- Open the zipper. Pin and hand stitch each edge of the zipper to the inside of the purse

10-12-2011- Other Thoughts: This Clutch Evening Bag is very very nice for the money it costs. I received it a few days after I ordered it. I was thinking that the person who handled my bag looked at it and thought: "This is a very nice bag, it must be very expensive". In fact, it is cost very little money. Anyways, I am very happy with this bag :)
